Who we are
Service Honored is run by [Legal business name]. On this page, "we" and "us" mean that business.
We are a private business. We aren't part of, or endorsed by, the National Archives, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense or any branch of the armed forces.
What you're buying
One tribute video about one veteran. It runs two minutes, narrated over up to 10 of your photographs, and is built from their DD-214, the published history of their unit and what your family tells us. You approve a proof first. Then it arrives in the recipient's email the morning of the date you choose, with a link to download a high-resolution file and a link to share it.
Prices and order windows
- More than 10 days before the date: $99
- 5 to 10 days before: $150
- 2 to 4 days before: $300
- Ordering closes 2 days before the date.
The price is set by the day you place the order. Each date takes up to 100 tributes. When a date reaches 100, it is closed. If we accept an order and then can't finish it to our standard by the date, we refund it in full. Prices are in US dollars.
What you send us
Every order needs the veteran's DD-214. By ordering, you confirm that:
- you are the veteran or their next of kin, or you have their permission to share their record with us;
- you took the photographs you send, or you have permission to use them;
- the DD-214 you send is a genuine copy of their record;
- the stories you send are told as you know them.
We check every service fact against the DD-214 and published unit histories. We check the tribute against the documents you send; we don't authenticate the documents themselves. We don't check family stories, because there is nothing to check them against. We write them down the way you tell them.
What goes in
If the record doesn't support a service fact, it stays out. Ranks, units, decorations and combat service come only from the DD-214 and the unit's published history, never from a family story alone. We don't animate photographs. We don't place anyone in a particular battle, because personnel records don't say who was in which fight. We can leave out anything we can't stand behind.
Records lost in the 1973 fire
A 1973 fire destroyed many Army files from before 1960 and Air Force files from before 1964. If their file was one of them, contact us before you order. We look at alternate documents case by case. See which records burned.
Your proof
Before the tribute is sent, you get a private proof to watch on our site. It is marked PROOF and can't be downloaded. Approve it, or tell us what to fix and we send a new proof.
Proofs are ready at least 5 days before the date on a pre-order, 2 days before on rush and the day before on last call. Approve it or send changes by 6 p.m. Pacific the day before the date. We email you when your proof is ready and remind you twice before the deadline, the last time that morning. If we haven't heard from you by then, we send the tribute on the date as it stands.
Delivery
The tribute arrives the morning of the date you chose, sent to the recipient's email address you give us, so please make sure it's right. You get a copy the same morning. If we miss the date through our own fault, we refund the order in full and still deliver the tribute.
Corrections
If we get a fact wrong, we fix it. That covers anything the service record settles: a name, a date, a rank, a unit, a decoration. Tell us within 30 days of delivery, which is how long we keep your paperwork. We don't re-cut the film to a different taste, swap photographs or rewrite lines that are already right.
Cancellations and refunds
Every order is one tribute, paid once. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
A pre-order can be cancelled for a full refund up to 10 days before the date. Rush and last call orders can't be cancelled for a refund. If we miss your date or the tribute never arrives, we refund any order in full, rush and last call included. If we get a fact wrong, we fix it. If we are going to miss your date, we tell you first and you choose. The details are on our refunds page.
Who owns what
Your photographs and stories stay yours. You give us permission to use them only to make and deliver your tribute.
The finished tribute belongs to you and the person it was made for, to watch, download, keep and share with anyone, including on social media. Please don't sell it or use it in advertising. The scripts, unit histories, design and production behind it belong to Service Honored.
We won't use your tribute, photographs or stories in our own marketing without your written permission.
Privacy
How we handle your files, and when we delete them, is set out in our privacy policy.
What we're responsible for
We do the work with care and check every service fact against the record. Beyond what these terms promise, the tribute is provided as is. If something goes wrong, the most we owe you is what you paid for that order. We aren't responsible for delays caused by things outside our control, such as an email provider's outage.
If there's a problem
Write to us first at hello@servicehonored.com. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [state].
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in effect on the day you placed your order is the one that applies to it.
