Who we are
Service Honored is run by [Legal business name]. On this page, "we" and "us" mean that business. Questions about anything here go to hello@servicehonored.com.
What we collect when you order
- Your name, your email address, the email address of the person receiving the tribute and the date you want it delivered.
- A copy of the veteran's DD-214.
- The photographs you send.
- The stories you type into the order form or send as a voice memo.
- The campaign tag from the ad link you followed, if you came from one of our ads.
- Payment details. These go straight to our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
We use only the fields on the DD-214 that describe their service.
The Social Security number
The DD-214 carries the veteran's Social Security number. Nothing we make needs it and we never use it. The order page has you cover it on your own screen, so only the covered copy is sent. If any part of it still shows when the file reaches us, we cover it before anybody reads the file.
Reminder emails
If you sign up for reminders, we keep your email address and nothing else. We write once before each occasion's order-by date. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes you off the list.
The DD-214 page
The questions on The DD-214 page are answered by a script running in your own browser. Nothing you choose there is sent to us or saved anywhere.
What we use it for
We use what you send to make the tribute, deliver it on the day, fix a fact if you report one and answer your questions. Reminder addresses get reminders.
We don't sell your information. We don't use it for advertising. Your tribute, photographs and stories stay out of our own marketing unless you give us written permission.
Who else handles it
A few service providers handle files for us: the payment processor, the email service, the storage that holds your files and the tools we use to produce the narration and video. Each gets only what it needs for that job and may use it only to do that job for us.
Beyond that, we share information only when the law requires it.
Your proof and the share link
Your proof plays only on a private page on our site, at an address we send to you. It is marked PROOF and can't be downloaded.
The finished tribute goes to the email address you give us for the recipient. Its share link works for anyone who has it, so whoever holds the link decides who sees it. We never post a tribute anywhere ourselves.
How long we keep it
- The DD-214, photographs, stories and voice memos: deleted 30 days after the tribute is delivered. That is also the window for reporting a wrong fact, because once the paperwork is gone there is nothing to check a correction against.
- The finished video: stays online [how long the link stays live] so the link keeps working. Ask us and we take it down sooner.
- Order records (your name, email, the date and what you paid): kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Reminder addresses: kept until you unsubscribe.
This website
These pages use no advertising trackers, no analytics and no cookies.
If you arrive from one of our ads, the link carries a short campaign tag. It travels in the page address to the order form, which saves it with your order so we know which ad brought you. Nothing is stored in your browser, and The DD-214 page never uses it.
The pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, and the Home and How It Works pages load some photographs from Wikimedia Commons. As with any web request, those services see your IP address and browser type when the page loads.
Your choices
Write to hello@servicehonored.com and we will send you a copy of what we hold about you, correct it or delete it ahead of the 30 days. If your tribute hasn't been made yet, we can't make it without the files, so we will sort out the order with you first.
Some states give their residents more rights than this. We honor these requests from everyone, wherever you live.
Children
We don't take orders from anyone under 13 or knowingly collect their information.
Security
Your files are kept in encrypted storage that only the people working on your tribute can open. If something goes wrong that affects your information, we tell you.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the new version goes up here with a new date. If a change affects files we already hold, we email you before it applies.
